Through the Fog (2016), written for virtuoso guitarist Mak Grgić, is about clarity and the impossibility of achieving it. In this spirit, the piece explores the microtonal possibilities of a standard guitar. Open strings are tuned in just intervals to adjacent strings. The complex dissonances formed by fretted notes weave a dense fabric, occasionally illuminated by the surrounding pure consonances. Mak's astounding premiere recording has just released by Microfest Records on the new album, Makrotonal (2018).
