The Golden Record, included on the Voyager spacecraft in 1977, marked an attempt to represent the diversity of life, language, and music on Earth to any intelligent being that might find it. Here, we reimagine this concept. Our own “Golden Record” does not attempt to paint a broad picture of life on Earth, but rather focuses on the subtle details of our individual locations, languages, and sonic experiences. This digital installation brings together sounds, walks, and tongue twisters from England, Greece and Indonesia into an interactive grid. Each square presents a work which can be played on its own or together with any other square in the grid. The audience is encouraged to explore the different combinations of each square, creating their own unique version or ‘mix’ of the piece.
The title of this piece is borrowed from the phrase etched into the original record, “To the Makers of Music - All Worlds, All Times.”

Cell Door (2018) - Sean Hayward
This piece was presented at the WaveCave Gallery at California Institute of the Arts.
A contemplation on the (mis)use of solitary confinement in the United States. This piece consists of a recreated solitary cell within a gallery. Projections on the walls reflect the hallucinations experienced by victims of long term solitary confinement and include statistics about the unethical and immoral practices of the US incarceration system. Audio is played into the cell, consisting of interviews with former inmates, reflecting on their experiences in solitary.
